In a scientific study conducted by the Cooper Institute in Texas and published in 2002, Dr. Timothy Church reported the following results when using EXEL Nordic Walker® poles compared to regular walking:
Caloric expenditure and energy consumption increased an average of 20%
As much as a 46% increase in oxygen consumption and similar caloric expenditure was achieved
Heart rate increased 7-10 beats per minute
